The future-proofing of Rønne Harbor supports all business areas while simultaneously enabling a long-term functional division of the harbor's activities.

Navigation conditions for both arrivals and departures from the harbor will be improved for all vessels, and the same applies to maneuvering conditions within the breakwaters.

At the end of 2022, the port completed the second phase of the port expansion, where the outer pier was extended at the same time as the quay and project area was expanded. In connection with the establishment of the new project area, the old landfill site at Galløkken has been cleared and utilised and is now used as a port area in connection with the newly established port areas.

In December 2023 the third expansion of the port began. In stage 3 the port is creating more than 100,000 m2 of larger project area in the south end of the port by partially filling the former fishing basin, where there is minimal activity today. In addition, a new Ro-Ro ramp and a new approx. 280 m long quay will be established opposite the current in the south end of the port.

Stage 4 of future-proofing involves an extension of the southern outer breakwater, removal of the inner piers, and dredging. This will improve navigational and maneuvering conditions within the harbor, resulting in a much calmer harbor basin. Finally, a multifunction quay will be established in the western part of the harbor. The multifunction quay will enhance opportunities for various business areas (e.g., bulk and cruise ships), thereby creating generally better conditions for the harbor’s customers as a whole.
